Militærbaner under WW1 - snart 100 år siden

Under 1. Verdenskrigs store skyttegravsbataljer spillede War Department Light Railways og "på den anden side" Heeresfeldbahnen en stor rolle i henseende til transport af ammunition og andre forsyninger til fronterne, og der anvendtes såvel damp- som motorlokomotiver:

I anledning af 100-året for 1. Verdenskrig arrangeres næste år i England bl.a. følgende:

Spændende, også vores eget panser/batteritog, for ikke at glemme den mystiske historie om den tyske efteretningstjeneste mulige interess i Nærum-Vedbækstrækningen (LNJ)???

Inspireret af din smukke artikel, og andre links i denne tråd, dukker der mindet om en dokumentar jeg så på youtube om et motor-lokomotiv der var tæt på at have kørt på smalspor i Frankrig under WW1. Så jeg gravede i hukommelsen, og fandt linket til glæde forhåbentlig. Salvage Squad - Simplex Loco Håber i kan lide det her i Herreværelset.

@ Jan-Eddie og Peter Matros: Tak for disse filmlinks, der på hver sin måde er ganske illustrative for WW1 militærbanerne.

Hyppigst forekommende i den første film var U.S. Army's Baldwin 2-6-2T. I Frankrig var denne type nok Baldwin's mest anvendte:

"A Baldwin 4-6-0T of Class 10-12-D Engine, which were the most common steam locomotives used by WDLR and saw service on all but the Italian and Dardanelles fronts. Because of the heavy demands on the Baldwin Locomotive Company in England some of the locomotives were manufactured by their American company in Philadelphia. France 1917."

Og den anden film drejede sig om restaureringen af en 40 hk Simplex som denne:

"A diesel or petrol powered Simplex, 40 horse power armoured locomotive tractor with the serial number LR2275, which was manufactured by The Motor Rail & Tramcar Company, Limited in Bedford England. This batch of 115 locomotives were provided with an armour plated body allowing usage in areas exposed to enemy fire. 20 of these locomotives were allocated to the Australian light railway operating companies. Note that the engine access doors have been opened to show the engine and the back of the operators seat is visible inside."

Nu er tiden vist inde til atter at minde om dette arrangement:

Apedale Valley Light Railway vil der blive vist og kørt med en bred vifte af feltbanemateriel i anledningen af 100-året for 1. Verdenskrigs udbrud.

Two unidentified soldiers with a narrow gauge diesel or petrol powered Simplex, 40 horse power armoured tractor locomotive with a small, low sided 1 ton goods wagon attached, which is carrying a large radiator for another Simplex locomotive. The locomotive has stopped on a narrow gauge line through the Havrincourt Wood and the engine access doors have been opened. A batch of 115 of these locomotives were provided with an armour plated body, allowing usage in areas exposed to enemy fire and 20 of these locomotives were allocated to the Australian light railway operating companies.
